i'll hold onto the domains WaveAppStore and WaveAppReview for the next 12 months but basically i think that they dont have anything close to what they demonstrated in the video and even if they did haven't built the hooks to commercialise/federate it out to other companies.
this one is stillborn people - it's not going anywhere.

ha ha the internetz is dead to Australians, shame the pollies haven't worked out that even the most brain dead internet user can get around their filters.
Time for a "Pirate Party"/"EFF" style political membership organisation for the Australian federal government so that over tea and crumpets someone of their stature can take them to one side and point out they are living in a fairy land.
My recommendation is start a non taxable charity and run on this platform "Laurel Papworth for Presidentz of the Internetz".

What really surprised me about this tournament though was how well the USA team actually played. I was really surprised how good they are considering how average most of the MLS games are (well the few i actually have gotten to see - whats with the lack of tv coverage guys....?).
Unfortunately after the first goal quickly in the second half by Brazil it was just a matter of time.
You have to admit though Brazil play like butter, they just seem to slide in to the penalty area anytime they really wanted to - it's almost like they play serious for about 15 minutes and the other 75 they are just playing with you letting you think you are winning.
The commentator said a really interesting stat about how 90% (or something like that) of the games Brazil win are by a 1 goal lead...yep they do just enough to win and thats it.
World Cup is another chance, plenty of time to train until then.
Thinking we might set up a special version of http://www.liveworldcupchat.com/ for the 4 weeks in June 2010 though haven't decided yet. (basically it would be the same as our http://www.livebaseballchat.com/ application).
I cannot communicate in words how moving this film is. Sean Penn is a genius.
Read the comments on IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758758/usercomments and run dont walk to see this film.
I'm not quite sure how this will affect my life but this is an experience that once your life has seen this film it will not and cannot be the same.

The more i look at it, the more neat design features that i just love but most people who dont know about watercooling will miss (recessed drain and fill ports for one).
There are a few things I would do differently eg - All computers have to have two hard drives for RAID 1 and i dont like how he used 'push on' tubing ( and with the new rotating compression fittings you dont need to worry about hose kinks).
I also hate water cooling systems with 'active radiator' eg. with fans - go all passive or dont bother watercooling at all you are just 'moving heat' (you can see his radiator with fans in photo 7).
Puts my watercooled rack to shame.
P.S. - if you want to see passive cooling check out this photo the 4 black things on the side are passive radiators - I use the same things, they are called cape cora's and I have 32 of them on the side of my rack.

Retailer Amazon.com has cut off its relationship with affiliates in North Carolina effective today, report people who have been involved in the company’s marketing program.
Affiliates helped Amazon sell by advertising books, music and other goods on their Web sites. If a customer clicked through those links and bought something on the Web site, the affiliate received a share of that sale.
“We are writing from the Amazon Associates Program to notify you that your Associates account has been closed as of June 26, 2009,” reads and e-mail Amazon sent to its affiliates today. “This is a direct result of the unconstitutional tax collection scheme expected to be passed any day now by the North Carolina state legislature (the General Assembly) and signed by the governor.”
So I wonder how hard it will be for N.C. based affiliates to change their home address.... and what recourse does the N.C. state government have to subpoena records in order to 'cross reference' N.C. residents and affiliates.
Surely it wont be that hard to set up a DE based company and then start right back up as an 'employee' of the company but operating from North Carolina. As long as they don't have staff/offices in NC then they wont even have to register activities with their home state...and IF they were a major operation with local staff - couldn't they set up two companies one in DE and one in NC, with the NC subcontracting services to the DE company?
Any thoughts? do you see this happening in other states as well?
Would someone start up an Android Mobile App Store today please. This Steve Jobs nanny state BS is getting old and boring.

Looks like they’ve got a ton of carriers on board.
Only bad thing is 35% ‘transaction fee’, i'm actually surprised it is as low as that (carriers are greedy bastards) .
The devil is in the details and i haven't looked yet but if you are looking for an easy way to monetise online content in either a desktop web or mobile web (or just charging for pizzas using mobiles), then you might want to check it out.
P.S. Btw just as a matter of research thought I’d check out http://bango.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1178 their rates are higher (and varied country to country).
Ha Ha at the 60% transaction fee in some of those countries (yes thats right your app charges $2 you get to keep 80c - the rest is taken by Bango) - what a joke.
Shame the technology still sucks though. It's good for cd's/dvd's etc but their 'vision' about 'everything' being a tag is BS .

Basically my proposal is that the future of the web isn't in monetising content, but tools to make sense and organise all the information that is out there already.
"One of the aspects i think most people are missing about Google Wave.... is Google Robots.
Yes the 'monetisation' hooks aren't even built yet for a Wave App Store but when you think that a Google Robot could site between you and all of your interactions with anything web related and do "stuff" in real time.
(the real time english/japanese translation example of the launch video was good but not 'un-thought' of, there are plenty of others less obvious but even more usefull day to day)
eg "in 15 minutes of brainstorming one of the ones we came up with was at barcampnyc4 was a 'CNBC' wave robot that would insert into any document real time financial information about a company where a financial ticker symbol was implemented into a Wave enabled document"

Today at Apple’s WWDC event in San Francisco, Apple had a bunch of Cinema Display monitors mounted together on a wall showing what looked to be some sort of pulsating canvas. But a closer look revealed that it was actually a huge collection of icons for many of the apps available in the App Store, arranged by color. Apparently, when someone purchased one, that app’s icon would pulsate, creating the effect.
Wow, this does look cool. When watching this i think they should have also added the sound of a cash register going 'Ka-Ching'.
Pure money being made and it's only going to get bigger.
Make me a reasonable offer by getting in touch via the websites above.

Ha ha i love it - when i first heard this story i was like ok but how are they going to get the browsers onto the machines without a browser in the first place.
Great to hear that MS is going to distribute disks - this is the way it should be, each browser company is responsible for 'their own distribution costs', ha ha sucked in to the vendors who thought MS was going to be forced to pick up the tab for distributing 'their competing browser products'.
It's not MS's fault that their competitors cant get users to adopt them. i laugh at people like Opera complaining they still only have 2%.

I've got to start by saying i'm really surprised how little of our budget got spent each day. It's like i'm trying to give google money..... and they cant find space/time to take it from me.
So as you can see in this first chart below, We ran a campaign for 14 days with a limit of $10 per day (though i preloaded the account with $500 so would have been happy to increase this limit if it looked like we were getting anywhere close to $10 a day but we never even came close).
The overall figures are this
- 730,772 impressions
- 79 clicks
which cost us on average $0.16 per click or a total of $12.96 for 14 days.
A couple of interesting things to note;
- very little traffic from google.com search? interested in your thoughts if you know, is it because i'm not bidding enough? not enough people searching at google with the appropriate keywords etc?
- notice 13% click through for 'search' traffic versus less than 1% for 'banner ad placements on content'
So the first thing I noticed in the next "Clicks" chart is it shows 33 clicks on the first day (even though there were only 30,148 impressions see chart below). Who were all these 33 clicks? I know two of them were me :) but it's not like site registrations went up much on that day, google staff maybe?
The other interesting point is Search got me more clicks BUT cost me less and although i had a rating of 3.3 (which i'm assuming means got our add on the first page anytime search for my keywords came up) but the overall number of impressions are less than 5%.
The next chart shows that in total we had 730,772 impressions. Which is pretty reasonable for $12.96 (eg we are charging about $1 per thousand banner impressions on our site - so to advertise that many times on our site would have cost over $730).
The question i do have however is how memorable our web ad actually is. The URL http://www.LiveBaseballChat.com/ appears twice in the ad quite prominently so I'm curious how many people might notice the ad, and although they don't click through at that time - remember the URL http://www.LiveBaseballChat.com/ and then check out the site at a later time?
The other question is why the spike of 169,721 ads on the 30th of May, a weekend Saturday so lots of baseball traffic i guess, but nor corresponding spike on the following Saturday? in fact we only got 2 clicks that day with all that traffic but the following Saturday we got 91,140 impressions with 9 clicks?
The Average Cost Per Click chart shows fairly large variations in the cost for each successful click through, eg clicks cost all the way from 7c to 33c.
And it doesn't seem tied to a week day or particular cycle so i'll see how this statistic evolves over time.
Obviously this chart is jagged because on two days we had no click through traffic at all.
Finally I thought i would throw in the 3 different examples of the ad that we used for this campaign. Although the pretty much show the same content/intent there are slight changes.
The clicks are higher for the first 2 it is due to number of impressions more than a better success rate.
Do you think we need to change out this content? should we be throwing in a couple of 'oddball' eye catching content lines?
Is our money better spent on banner advertising?
Like I said I'm putting this out there so that other startups with more experience might comment, and other startups with less experience might learn something.

Verizon Offering 99 Cent Cab Rides In N.Y. Today; Mr. Softee Later
Thanks to a guerilla marketing effort by Verizon, New Yorkers can get a cab ride today from select locations in Manhattan to anywhere else in the borough for the fixed fee of 99 cents. And, in two weeks, they'll be able to buy a Mr. Softee Ice Cream from trucks at select points in the city for the same price. The goal is to promote Verizon prepaid cellular plans, which have a daily usage fee of 99 cents, Steve McClellan reports.
"Brand ambassadors" at locales including Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal will manage the flow and collect the fares for Verizon-branded taxis. The ice cream promo, set for June 23, will feature four Verizon Wireless-wrapped trucks at locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens during the lunch hour. Branded napkins with additional prepaid details will be dispensed with the treats. Natan Cohen, a Universal McCann media planner on the account, says Verizon views the taxi and ice cream stunts as a "pilot program" that could lead to additional events in New York and other cities after it reviews its success in converting cheapskates into paying customers. - Read the whole story...
But i feel the comments about roadblocks was misinformed.

My response is
The roadblocks to QR adoption isn't not having readers pre-installed though yes this does help to raise awareness but i bet you haven't used 'every' software app that resides on your current phone and a QR reader would just become 'another application'.
The real issue is that there are very few QR marketing campaigns where there is content/reward of any siginificant value to encourage mobile phone users to interact with the QR codes.
The Japanese market works because there is value in the QR campaigns and the content users can access.
The real roadblock to QR code adoption in the USA (and Australia), is dinosaur old school marketing/brand managaers who play it 'safe' (and if you are reading this thinking hey that's not me I'm just waiting for the number of readers deployed to increase then i'll roll out a QR campaign for my brand..... then yes I'm talking about you).
The first person to buy a fax machine was an idiot but the second one was a visionary.
It's time for brands to roll out content of value, if QR codes are the only way to access this value then your users will start to download readers.
Be a visionary not a dinosaur.

Keep an eye out for this and a bevy of 'free' apps that allow you to start playing for free but active participation is 'enhanced' with game sales.
CNN etc are going nuts this week about North Korea and their growing 'Nuclear Threat' (whatever connotations that is supposed to mean).
So basically everybody is running around freaking out because North Korea detonated an underground Nuclear explosion last week and America is all like "awww we dont like that, you must stop now, we're going to get the UN to put you on the state terrorism list, please stop now".
Ok So this is my message to America - STFU.
What right do you have to say what any other country can and cant do. You blew the crap out of Arizona in the 40's and 50's with your underground nuclear test explosions, you have more missiles than anyone else and could blow North Korea into hole deep enough to make Seoul waterfront property.
What right do you have to huff and puff and determine which countries can and cant have Nuclear weapons.
When you want to talk to me about leading by example and reducing your own Nuclear weapons then I'm happy to talk.
If Obama wants to show how he can be a true President of change and prove that "Yes We Can" and begin reducing the USA's own Nuclear missiles then I'll be a big supporter.

Also another thought was could you do a 'third voice' style system for all web pages where your web browser became Wave enabled - people would vote up or down content Digg Style (or even down to 'paragraphs of content') on a web page where you would see a heat map style system on all web pages for sections that people liked. Kind of like Delicious but real time and more granular.
Eg. I would pay for some analytics, but mainly I would also like to pay for better spam protection to block users who post certain 'keywords' eg. would you like to make $16,000 dollars this week.
Which is funny because i created a commercial application to auto follow users based on keywords (www.MyTwitterbutler.com ) so i'm almost certainly contributing to the problem.
I guess it's the old adage "Guns dont kill people, people kill people".
Does anyone have any thoughts about how third party developers could charge for the use and license of their Wave App Robots?

Another one was an IMDB robot where the name of any actor, producer or film title could import real time information directly from the landing page of the IMDB content into your email/content.
Obviously both of these 'are traffic generating' so could be given away from BUT what about third part Wave Robot developers?

Any thoughts on how Asterisk and Wave can integrate? Are there any Voice Robot application concepts you can think of?
Something i just thought of while i was on a conference call is that all Asterisk Conference calls spawn waves with the details of the call length, who was on the call, when they dialled in/out, their numbers, urls for the call voice recording access at a later date PLUS any notes that were taken by all parties during the call.
What do you think? Would you pay an open source bounty for this to be developed into the Asterisk code?
So above 23 people clicked on the first google wave link out of 431 other clicks from other shortened locations.
Now if only i could get Bit.ly to return my calls so that i could tell them that 12.01 is 1 minute past midnight and not 1 minute past midday. So cleaver yet no one has fixed this no matter how many times i write to them.
When I originally read about it last I was just like hohum another IM client.
But I was at BarCampNYC4 on the weekend and it was explained to me;
- Why Wave Robots will be bigger than the iPhone App Store (yes the domain for waveappstore is already taken),
- Why this is the biggest thing since visicalc for new methods of visualizing information and
- Why MS Office will become Wave enabled sooner than later.
