Spam Assassin for Twitter?

Ok I’m drowning here, I’ve given up trying to manually block all the people on twitter sending me spam and I don’t think that TrueTwit is really the solution.

What we really need is a distributed system like Spam Assassin where when enough people “block” or report an account as spam that it is then flagged and block from all other participating accounts. Does something like this exist already? Is the API the limit to using something like this?

What can I do to cut down on the number of follows who are sending me spam accounts?

P.S. yes i get the irony

Fatty Crab review

Went to Fatty Crab last night

Ugh, so many misses.

- Quails egg shooters, gross. tried it, sounded good on the menu in reality blech like sucking back stinging spicy snot.
- Penang fish....really?? basically battered fish (like you would have english style with fish and chips) and spicy fishy soup. Not what i expected.
- Tokyo turnips was good, Fatty duck was good (could have been great but duck was average) Pork buns was fantastic - but not worth the $$$$ that the meal cost.

The shitty part - way too loud, music sucked (i mean really sucked) and although the staff liked it raising the roof loud, diners were trying to talk and even across the table couldn't hear a word.

The worst part, when will NY restaurant designers decide enough is enough; and actually purchase tables big enough to hold more than 3 plates and 2 glasses.

- lastly....when you put a table so close to the register/bar that staff bump into the diner eating dinner every time they walk past ITS TOO FREAKING CRAMPED!! (this is in addition to the seating where every time someone wants to leave the table they have to pull the table out from the wall as they are physically line up next to each other unless you are sitting on the ends- WHO DOES THAT???
Lose a few tables it will cost you less in the long run than people writing crappy reviews about your cramped, loud, over crowded restaurant.

Walked two doors down for coffee and desert at some random italian place, no idea of the name, was like night and day, nice lighting, nice table spacing, nice quiet music, able to hold a decent conversation and enjoy great company - ended up staying for 4 coffees and tipped them more than i did for the fatty crab meal. Will be back there for dinner soon.

Taxes in New York and "mobile people"

Watching NY1 (Inside CityHall), Mayor Bloomberg is stating unequivocally "We will not raise taxes for high income earners".

Cut to the commentator with some stats that 1% of New York residents pay over 50% of the dollar amount of NY state earns from income taxes and that over 35% of resident pay no state income tax at all (eg low income/retirees etc).

Wow - i had no idea that the financial district etc people in new York paid over 50% of the income tax - you can understand why Bloomberg is worried some of these people will happily decamp to CT or other areas and work outside of the New York tax district.

(its a real problem, eg i can work from anywhere and intend to from Dec 2015 because of the heart taxation act).

What would it take for Costa Rica to entice half of the people reading this to relocate and work on their software development code remotely?

Twitter video?

When did Twitter start allowing you to watch videos in the client?

Any thoughts on what this potentially could mean?
(eg cnn delivered in 10 minute tweets etc)

Micro VC

Watching this video, http://www.udemy.com/lectures/interview-with-dave-mcclure-on-how-investors-think-36121.html

I like the way he corrects the definition of Super Angel as "Micro VC", eg even if your terms/control are loose like angel funds you are a VC as soon as you invest other peoples money.

Twitter is at least 10% smaller than you think

Wow i'm stunned, going through all of the LiveChatConcepts twitter followers. About 10% on average are abandoned accounts for 120 days+ (using untweeps to remove them).

So basically twitter is at least 10% (if not more) smaller than people think it is.

Wonder how many abandoned Facebook profiles there are?

Truetwit

I'm not sure the reason but has anyone else noticed that you no longer need to type two words for True Twit?

Basically just type in the "fuzziest" one and click submit. Sometimes you chose wrong but thats basically @3 secs a word about 6 minutes a day of my life i get back ever day confirming all the twitter accounts for Live Chat Concepts.

HARD TIMES AND NURSERY RHYMES

Neat marketing campaign from Social Distortion this morning, their new album Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes will be launced for sale at Amazon on Jan the 18th BUT the price hasn't been set yet.

Depending on how many people preview listen to the tracks, before the sale date, determine how cheap the album will be ($1 reduction for every 100,000 listens-max $5 reduction).

Another interesting point, they are using SoundCloud for the previews (its a USV funded startup that i only just heard about recently), basically you get to add comments at any place during the song.

Re the new album, didn't like it first listen but only because i was expecting the hard driving old Social Distortion (first 30 seconds of the first track starts out great but then it gets middle aged and "ballady") - 3 full listens through later to the whole album its starting to grow on me and i'll be buying it anyway as i'm a huge fan but i have to wonder if Lanie Kerrigan would still dance around to it wearing nothing but a tshirt. Maybe we're all just getting old.

Gun deaths - whats it really about?

I've held off for the last 24 hours but i think it's time to post this.

I think the bigger issue here is how many people got shot in the last 24 hours in USA occupied countries which didn't make the news??

Or better still according to this article 81 nobodies died from gun shots in the USA today (average) - http://blog.collins.net.pr/2007/04/gun-deaths-in-usa.html  - yet because a few "somebodies' died in yesterdays shooting it's a big deal in the news cycle / the president stops for a moment silence etc.

So whats was yesterday really about?

The Australian Women's Weekly - 1969

I was recently sent this link http://trove.nla.gov.au/ which is an archive of Australian multimedia content including newspapers etc.

I thought cool, will check out a paper on the day i was born, unfortunately they didn't have a paper but they did have a scanned archive on the Women's Weekly from the same week.

Ok here is where it gets really interesting, I was stunned with the content in comparison to today's magazines.

Sure there was Celebrity glamour/fashion photos on some of the pages but they also covered some amazing article topics - fossil finds, superannuation and means testing (way more progressive than i ever thought you would find at this time), Australian tv content production values and ratios versus the USA.

Sure there is the expected "international celeb pandering" etc but in depth articles about finance, science, climbing Mount Everest etc wasn't what i expected to see.
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/page/4892401?zoomLevel=1

I have no idea who was the driving force at the time but i guess kudos to Kerry Packer and shame on current era womens magazine editors.

As a long-time contributor to the original Dimdim team (now completely discusted
by the fact that they broke GPL law and spit upon the very community that got
them to where they are now), I would like to become a financial partner in the
further development or the origainal source code, and to help build it to become
the type of Enterprise-level, truely community-base system that it should be.

We have been using the latest opensource code for a couple of years now for
public schools all across the country, and have really enjoyed it, despite it's
many shortcomings.

Now we "just" need to find the right team of dedicated professionals in the
community who want to create something really spectacular, and who want to live
up to code of honor that is spelled out in the GPL. Anyone who is interested
in taking on the coordination and continued programing & development of this
project should let me know.

I would especially like to speak with the folks who are thinking along these
same lines, and who have already shown great initiative by launching the Midmid
project so quickly.

Together, we can all build something far superior to the old Dimdim, and really
create some spectacular.

Underworld - am i the only one who didn't know this !!!

So i went a little spastic over Christmas spending Amazon vouchers on 2nd hand cd's (Yes i buy all my music on CD and as i only rip them once to my media server then stack the cd away i dont care they are second hand and 99c a CD + $2 shipping means i get to order 50+ cd's in a single sitting).

So one of the CDs  i was playing a lot over the holidays was the "The Beach Soundtrack" and I really like the Underworld - 8 Ball track I decided to hunt around and delve into the other albums Underworld have released as i didn't know much about them (apart from Born Slippy which i knew about from the Trainspotting soundtrack).

HOLY CRAP!!!!

Am i the only person in the world not to know that the "Underworld - Underneath the radar" from when i was in high school is the same as "Underworld - Born Slippy"

1987 -

1995 -

What a mind trip. Proves you can get cooler as you get older :)
I just ordered Underworld - 1992 to 2002 Cant wait to listen to the rest.

Dean

Wow- things you learn

the earth...even with all its mountains and seas is actually smoother than a billiard ball based on scale.

wow - who knew.

Earth has a tolerance of about one part in about 584, or 0.17%, from the reference spheroid, which is less than the 0.22% tolerance allowed in billiard balls.[61] The largest local deviations in the rocky surface of the Earth are Mount Everest (8848 m above local sea level) and the Mariana Trench (10,911 m below local sea level). Because of the equatorial bulge, the surface locations farthest from the center of the Earth are the summits of Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador and Huascarán in Peru..
