The stamp duty isnt the issue, its the capital gains tax discount being removed that now puts Australia on the shit list for expats/foreigners.

If the long term capital gains of Australian property is 8% and the long term capital gains of USA equities is 8% it doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand that with the 50% capital gains discount being removed means that expats and foreigners are now paying $41,000 per $100,000 in capital gains taxes instead of $20,000 as they would in the past.....

Uhm pass, will happy direct funds to USA equities instead of Australian property until the Australian govt comes to its senses.

Australian internet 55th slowest and falling.....

Just got back from 3 weeks in Australia yesterday.


Was a weird trip, great in some ways but concerning in others (though need more time to really put things in context).


I found it really weird though that people have just accepted the raw deal they have been dealt with NBN 2.0 and that they have fully accepted an internet service that is now putting them at 55th slowest in the world (and falling) and even technical friends of mine think that wireless 5g will save them (or that NBN 1.0 was never going to work anyway......and Turnbull is great). http://www.smh.com.au/business/consumer-affairs/australia-s-broadband-slower-than-kazakhstan-20180107-p4yyb1.html


Was very happy to log into my home network when i got back and returned to 300/30 where browsing speeds didnt drive me crazy.

Its rather ironic that we went to see "A Man For All Seasons" the same day that the Michael Flynn guilty plea was entered......

The play is primarily about the split if the Church Of England from the Vatican (so that Henry VIII could get a divorce and marry again). But what I think its really about is really about is leaders surrounding themselves with fools and yes men and the execution of Sir Thomas More a man who stood up for his principles in the face of certain death.
