Buy a bale.....?

Interesting timing on this video.....

This weeks Landline is about 'destocking livestock" and infrastructure preparation in a drought......which is what i posted about in reference to the "buy a bale" campaign recently
Worth a watch.

Woman in the Wilderness

Just finished reading this book after seeing a BBC interview on Miriam Lancewood

Quick read, but interesting insights.

I hope there is a followup to come in another decade or two, ignore the wilderness part...its really a love story and a comment on choices we make in life.

Fleetwood Mac (the early stuff)

Been noticing lately that im constantly replaying over and over Fleetwood Mac's - Need Your Love So Bad -   (the 13 minute versions on The Pious Bird Of Good Omen album track 10).

Its like I hear a different intonation with every listen. Pure perfection

The Damned by Ivo Van Hove

Just bought tickets to Ivo Van Hove's play "The Damned".

This will be the 3rd play we've seen of his and love his innovative stage and production techniques and having watched the video snippet of the european production.....dont expect anything less than another masterpiece -

For friends of ours living in New York....if you are going to be here in July 17th to 28th you should definitely get tickets that are on sale now.

#DPSS18 - Dawn of Private Space Science Symposium

Just spent 2 very enjoyable days watching the livestream of the #DPSS18 conference.
The Dawn of Private Space Science Symposium is a platform to facilitate communication between the private space industry and scientists. The symposium brings together leading scientists, foundations, corporations, policy makers, and commercial spacelines under one roof to create opportunities for scientific research in space.

The stream is a bit rough eg you need to fastforward over the starts/breaks but the content/discussions are pretty good (it went for 2 days - so Saturday is video 1, Sunday is video 2)

EU questioning of Mark Zuckerberg

I'm @NowWatching the European questioning of Mark Zuckerberg.

Wondering what people are thinking about these claims by the EU on how Facebook is "just wrong" and people in Europe don’t want to use it apart from lol...apart from millions of people keep signing up and using it every day.

I keep thinking.....he doesn't get paid enough.

The smartass asking 6 questions without pausing for answers/or the questions to be written down with final part 6 saying Facebook should be broken up because he wants to see a European competitor.....

My response would be GAGF.

I've never been pro Facebook.....but these questions are a witch hunt.

No wonder Europe is in such a mess.

Eg the guy who was late to the start of the meeting because of the strikes in France but now asking for $198 compensation for every facebook users data.

Or the Irish politician wants Facebook to prevent fake accounts (idiot Irish kid who posted embarrasing sex photo and killed himself).....but the other EU politicians want to ban Facebook from building shadow accounts. (Which are used to prevent fake account generation).

This is why EU is screwed up they can't agree on what they want.

Lastly....just plain ugh, this questioning format is ridiculous but well done by Mark in not getting frustrated with their incompetence.

Twitter implements system wide censorship

Twitter implements system wide let's guess what's for your account otherwise your posts won't get seen.

Lol stick a fork in them if this gets widespread adoption which is a shame as they were providing a nice real time counter balance to Facebook.

So lame @Jack

Promiscuous forms of CRISPR

Nothing to see here.....move along.

lol that there is even a term "promiscuous forms of CRISPR ".......and that this isn't freaking people out.

Saturday, May 05, 2018

Watched an interesting 60 Minutes episode this week.

and the "deeper conversation" 60 mins overtime -  that they didn't cover in the basic story.

Been reading up on various sites today, interesting to see lots of issues with immunology that crispr will have -

And some of the potential causes of concern eg this one

Whats really interesting is how "DNA specific" CRISPR can Kim Jong Un using a porta potty and taking his poop back home with him from the meeting doesn't seem so dumb after all anymore......

No need to use "laced toothpaste" anymore and worry someone else will use it.........just get a DNA sample, cook up some gene editing substances specific enough and ship an entire case through channels.

How to Add IP Addresses to Exchange 2007 IP Block List

You would think this is fairly simple right.....

You want to block an IP address from sending you spam and you google to find out how and get this page as the number one result...

This topic explains how to use the Exchange Management Console or the Exchange Management Shell to add IP addresses to the IP Allow list and IP Block list for connection filtering in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. The Connection Filter agent is an anti-spam agent that is enabled on computers that have the Edge Transport server role installed.
IP Block lists and IP Allow lists are administrator-defined lists that specify IP addresses and IP address ranges that are acted on by the Connection Filter agent. The Connection Filter agent disconnects the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) session after all MAIL FROM: headers in the message are processed if the following conditions are true:
  • The Edge Transport server is connected directly to the Internet.
  • An originating IP address matches an IP address or IP address range on the IP Block list.
What they don't explain is turn IP Blocking On/Off at the "Organizational Level".... and you enter individual IP addresses on at a "Server Level".

"Organizational Level"....
Turn on here

"Server Level"....
Selecting the Internet facing connector THEN enter IP addresses you want to block on Anti-Spam tab.

Seems obvious when reading the TechNet instructions at after you've worked out "how to block spam ip addresses in Exchange 2007" but you think they could edit the article to make it a little clearer.

Hope this saves you 15 mins of digging around......

The China Hustle

I'm @NowWatching #TheChinaHustle on #Spectrum -

Great documentary. Very much like Enron 2.0 etc

Yet again auditors and lawyers booking fees without due diligence or care. Its available at Amazon on demand - The China Hustle -

This is the article where I found out about it with some more background -

Was worth my $6.99 just to see General(ret) Wesley Clark squirm like a little girl when he realized his FUBAR decision to be interviewed in the first place.

Gay Bakers have more rights than Crypto and Guns

Reading this article today

I’m kind of curious what peoples thoughts are around these issues?

In the light of……
- The social networking site Facebook, banned advertisements for crypto-related and other speculative financial products as of January 2018.
- Just a few days after Google’s announcement, news reports speculated that Twitter would be next to prohibit advertisements for initial coin offerings as well.
- New gun content rules on YouTube send one gun channel to Pornhub -

How come gay bakers are a constitutionally protected species according to SCOTUS ….but crypto startups and gun reviewers can have their rights trampled on like the unwashed floor mats at an all you can eat buffet.

I know YouTube, Facebook and Google are private companies and as such they get to determine what content goes on their site.

But at the same time I cant help but wonder….shouldn’t all “currently fully legal” topics be freely shown and discussed?

So if YouTube bans a baking video channel that only reviews gay wedding cakes…..its a national emergency, but if YouTube bans some rednecks who like to talk about and shoot AR-15’s at plywood….this is ok. (InRange isn’t a small content provider either….they had 145,000 registered subscribers.

If Facebook is allowed to ban discussions about Crypto……we are all lead to believe this is fine.

But whats next? eg if they then use their powers to prevent us talking about startups looking to compete with Facebook…..then isn’t it the same?

What about governments around the world banning discussion on encryption and security methodologies “because it makes an educated society harder to monitor” Our free rights to new ideas are being infringed upon.

Last time I checked…..this isn’t what the internet is about. Thoughts?

P.S. I hope people get my humor about Gay Bakers, I fully support SCOTUS position. I just don’t understand why the EFF isn’t pursuing our other rights to discuss legal topics on these social media venues.

Friday music - Godspeed You Black Emperor

Its not everyone's taste.....but this Fridays music is avant-garde Godspeed You Black Emperor unfortunately the track below was never released commercially being recorded live by the BBC.

Godspeed You Black Emperor
Live John Peel Sessions Recording
"Hung Over as the Queen in Maida Vale"

Sit back and listen and tell me this isn't some of the best live recordings you've ever heard and are able to pick out individual instruments in this 18 minute journey.

I've never been able to just listen to them in the background when their tracks come up on random play.....always find myself sitting back, listening, closing my eyes and just absorb.

Would love to hear them live in concert. One day, maybe.

Awesome :)

Just scored tickets to a very "only in New York" kind of event with Moby for Jodie and I tonight.

Snowday....shmo day....we're here to party even if we have to walk there !!

Very happy.

Personal fiefdoms

lol just noticed that  has banned my account from commenting because we disagree on some positions (mainly arround tax imputation).

Such a piss weak move @daemon.blake.37

PK would be laughing his ass off at how you cant handle anyone disagreeing with your positions and take the slime bucket method of witholding political discourse.

Enjoy your fiefdom.

Newborn Wireless 106 Bowery St New York

Had a cracked screen on my Samsung s7 edge. Replaced it at Newborn Wireless at 106 bowery and thought they did a great job......until 4 weeks later when I get a black spot on the top right.

Went back to see whats up.....told "you must have dropped again" nope not a mark on the new glass. Told....had to pay for new screen as only 1 week warranty.....

Told them thanks but no thanks and went to King Digital around the corner - he said its was a cheap aftermarket display they used instead of OEM.

Would I could give a negative or 0 star if I could. Wont be back.

Unthinkable: An Extraordinary Journey Through the World's Strangest Brains

I’ve just started reading the most incredible book on “brains” and research into how the brain acts/reacts in different people.

Its not a technical book however I’m finding the first few chapters ridiculously fascinating.

Unthinkable: An Extraordinary Journey Through the World's Strangest Brains

I came across it when reading this article (and might be enough info for most people eg to work out not your cup of tea) -

FS Labs - chrome password stealing tool

Like ive said before….every app you install on your pc opens up a new attack vector.

Do you really want to run that trial demo tool etc?

I hope FlightSimLabs is out of business before the end of the year for pulling hacks like this.

Pool pump energy market manipulation

Wow....never thought of this before, you could hack pool pumps remotely and use the "inside knowledge" that pumps were about to turn on to short the market etc.

I mean realistically most pool pumps are on a timer and how often do you pay attention to is it on or off etc.

I wonder how many pools you would need to hack to move the market enough to make it worthwhile?

What to do with your USA 401k when moving back to Australia and can i put it into superannuation

Question was asked in one of the Aussie expat groups on Facebook and I thought it was worth posting my answer here as well

lol if reading this article doesn't infuriate you.....then you don't understand the question.

US Pension transfer and withdrawal to Australia. 401(k), IRA, Roth IRA, 403(a), 403(b). Tax minimization -

My answer is lol....or John tells the ATO to GAGF and withdraws the entire sum BEFORE arriving in Australia and doesn't end up owing the ATO $83,632 on top of what he already paid the IRS.

10 year bond

Want to know why your shares are doing so well.....hint its not cause you are smart.
This chart still blows me away how much the savings/bond markets have been manipulated by the fed - long term average of 10yr bond 5% or higher.

Compare that with the market since the GFC.

With this plus QE.....its no wonder we are seeing runaway stock returns (eg too much cash sloshing around).

Foreign buyers walking away from Australian property

The stamp duty isnt the issue, its the capital gains tax discount being removed that now puts Australia on the shit list for expats/foreigners.

If the long term capital gains of Australian property is 8% and the long term capital gains of USA equities is 8% it doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand that with the 50% capital gains discount being removed means that expats and foreigners are now paying $41,000 per $100,000 in capital gains taxes instead of $20,000 as they would in the past.....

Uhm pass, will happy direct funds to USA equities instead of Australian property until the Australian govt comes to its senses.

Australian internet 55th slowest and falling.....

Just got back from 3 weeks in Australia yesterday.

Was a weird trip, great in some ways but concerning in others (though need more time to really put things in context).

I found it really weird though that people have just accepted the raw deal they have been dealt with NBN 2.0 and that they have fully accepted an internet service that is now putting them at 55th slowest in the world (and falling) and even technical friends of mine think that wireless 5g will save them (or that NBN 1.0 was never going to work anyway......and Turnbull is great).

Was very happy to log into my home network when i got back and returned to 300/30 where browsing speeds didnt drive me crazy.
