Finally got my Thecus N7700 back online

My Thecus N7700 finally got repaired.

Cost me a little under $500 for shipping, replacement motherboard, replacement DOM (plus another $60 for the replacement power supply that i bought elsewhere).

I find it hard to believe that 3 out of 4 electrical parts all need replacing in just over 2 years.

The bad part is it took 19 days from shipping the unit to Thecus and getting it back : (
As they are the only source of parts there is nothing you can do about it so i highly reccomend people DO NOT PURCHASE THECUS PRODUCTS.

It was good in that the raid information is encoded on the drives so you can swap from one to another....it's bad that their hardware is proprietary.

As soon as you put your drives back into another thecus n7700 you can access your files straight away (as soon as you enter the ACL / username etc details).

I am going to buy Areca raid cards and setup an off the shelf server then sell my N7700 as i cant rely on Thecus with a lifespan of just over 2 years.

Very dissapointed.

Cheers,
Dean
